Ever done a monthly relationship check in with your partner before?
My close friends have heard me bang on about the benefits of doing this each month.
And one friend recently sent me a message sharing that having implemented this with their partner, their communication and relationship has improved.
So, I thought I’d share it here.
I’m no relationship guru. I’ve plenty of failed relationships.
However, after my previous relationship ended, I did a lot of soul searching. I went to therapy, did a lot of reflection and I enrolled in a group coaching program run by Dan Stanley.
I realised that I needed to do a lot of work on myself, before I could start another relationship with someone.
Then once I was ready. I built out a version of this monthly relationship check in.
It’s been a game changer for me personally. And whilst we haven’t always stuck to the exact questions, it has given us both a safe space to share our thoughts, our wins, our concerns and much more.
No relationship is perfect, but having a tool like this can massively help you navigate the journey. It can help smooth out the ups and downs.
I’ve just updated it for 2023. It consists of a few sections and I’ve added prompts to help complete it for yourself.
– Page 1 is all about your goals (individual and together) and your love languages.
– Page 2 contains 14 questions you can ask each other and also a space for you to add a few plans for the following month.
It takes about 30 minutes to complete.
There’s a link to a public version of the check in which you can make a copy of and give it a go.
Enjoy!
ps. At first it felt weird being so “businessy” in my relationship. But I love business and I consider myself good at it. So I thought: “why not lean into my strengths and apply practices to other areas of my life?”. And I’m very glad I did.
pps. To make it feel less formal we usually go through our answers at a nice restaurant, favourite coffee shop or during a weekend getaway. I find the setting away from the home environment helps, but that’s just me.
